One mistake I’ve done as a affiliate marketer is I didn’t give much importance to my visitor source while choosing products to promote. Not only me, a lot of other people do not give much importance to some source of visitors like Stumbleupon. In one of my blog site where I was promoting products doing review had most of the visitors from Stumbleupon. I used to get more than thousand visitor everyday. And I never made a sale from those visitors. Later when I didn’t quite research and test new products to promote I successfully made good sales from Stumbleupon Visitors which was going useless before.
Lots of people say social networking/bookmarking traffic is useless. They doesn’t sell or whatever. But that is not true at all. What you need to care about is the product you’re promoting. I have been successful in selling through Stumbleupon. The advantage is, it takes very few times and it takes no money. Write a blog post, and submit it to 25 top social bookmarking site. Everybody knows that that brings traffic. And if you’re a power user or if you have bigger network you’re gonna have a lot more traffic. Now, how to sell to those visitors?
Here is a mistake what I did before. I tried to sell expensive products. Generally stumbleupon visitors only look for new contents so if its about something expensive stuffs they will just thumb down and go away. And later I choose cheaper products after some brainstorming. And I started to make sales.
The key of making sales here is not only cheaper product. The product should be interesting and kind of new. If you have a product which cost 20$ and the product is like “wow, its cool ” thing, people don’t really mind to spend 20$. For example at first I tried to promote Jewelery with the help of blog and stumbleupon. I got a lot of visitors but no one clicked. Because the products I was selling were very expensive. And jewelery are not things which people buy for fun. They need to be serious on buying such expensive things. But if I’m promoting a software for watching TV online, then they are more likely to buy it.
